This policy covers our website at cbcberry.com and our mobile app Field Pins. The sections below describe the website unless they say otherwise; everything specific to the app is in Field Pins mobile app.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

• Contact Forms: Name, email address, company, phone number, growing region, and message content when you reach out to us.
• Job Applications: Name, email, phone number, position of interest, cover letter/message, and resume (PDF) when you apply for a position.

Information Collected Automatically

When you submit a contact form, we automatically collect certain technical information to help us understand our visitors and prevent spam:

• IP Address and approximate geographic location (city, region, country)
• Device Information: Browser type, operating system, device type (desktop/mobile)
• Referrer: The website or search engine that directed you to us
• Page Activity: Pages visited on our site and time spent (Cultivar Explorer only)

This information is collected only when you submit a form and is used solely to provide context for your inquiry. We do not use this information to track you across other websites.

How We Use Your Information

• To respond to your inquiries and messages
• To review job applications and contact qualified candidates
• To improve our website and services

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

Third-Party Services

We use the following services to operate our website:

• Vercel Analytics: Privacy-focused, cookieless website analytics. Collects anonymous, aggregate data only (page views, country, device type). Does not track individual users or use cookies.
• Resend: Email delivery service used to send form submissions to our team. Your submitted information is transmitted securely.
• Vercel: Website hosting platform.

Field Pins mobile app

Field Pins is an internal tool for CBC staff and authorized field crew. It is used to record the GPS location of research plots, grower blocks, and other field landmarks, so that CBC's agronomic records can be tied to real places. It is not a consumer product and it is not advertising-supported. Sign-in is restricted to CBC-issued Microsoft work accounts.

The app is designed to work fully offline. Signing in is optional and enables one thing only: backing up your saved locations to CBC. If you never sign in, the app keeps everything on your device and sends us nothing.

What the app sends to CBC when you sign in and back up

• Precise location of each location you deliberately save — latitude, longitude, and the GPS accuracy at the moment you saved it.
• What you typed: the name, notes, labels, ranch, area, and block description you entered for that location.
• Grower and cultivar references you selected from CBC's internal registry, so the location can be matched to our own planting records.
• Your work identity: the email address and user identifier from your CBC Microsoft sign-in, so we know who recorded each location.
• A device identifier generated by the app, so we can tell which phone a record came from, plus the app version.

What the app does not do

• No background or continuous location tracking. Location is read only while you are using the app, and a position is recorded only when you choose to save one. The app does not follow your movements between those moments.
• No advertising, and no tracking across other apps or websites. The app contains no advertising or third-party analytics software.
• We do not sell or rent this information, and we do not share it with third parties for marketing.

Where it goes, and how long we keep it

Backed-up locations are stored in CBC's private database hosted by Supabase (a managed PostgreSQL provider), and are readable only by authorized CBC accounts. Records are kept as an append-only history: correcting a location saves a new revision rather than erasing the old one, because the record of what was observed when is the point of the dataset.

We retain these field records as part of CBC's ongoing breeding and agronomic archive. Location records are business records about places, not profiles of people; where they are associated with the employee who recorded them, see your rights below.

Market intelligence data

Our Market page displays charts built from public strawberry market information (USDA Agricultural Marketing Service, Market News) and weather information from NOAA (National Centers for Environmental Information, NCEI). California Berry Cultivars fetches and processes that data on a schedule and hosts the results on our website. When you view those charts, your browser loads data from us; you do not sign in to USDA or NOAA, and viewing the dashboard does not send your personal information to those agencies in the same way as when you submit a contact form to us.

Official sources include USDA AMS Market News, My Market News (API), NOAA NCEI Data Access, and NCEI Access Data Service API.

These charts are for general informational purposes only and are not trading, financial, or professional advice. Presentation of this data does not imply endorsement by USDA, NOAA, or the U.S. government.

Cookies & Tracking

Our website does not use tracking cookies or third-party advertising trackers. We do not build user profiles or track you across other websites.

Employees and field crew: California law extends these rights to information collected in an employment context, which includes the sign-in identity and saved locations recorded through the Field Pins app. If you record locations for CBC and want to know what is held against your name, or believe something was recorded in error, contact us at the address below. Note that because the field record is append-only, a correction is normally handled by recording the corrected location rather than by deleting history.

Data Retention

We retain contact form submissions and job applications for as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose for which they were collected, typically up to two years for general inquiries and the duration of the hiring process plus one year for job applications.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
